The London Abused Women's Centre welcomes both men and women to volunteer at the agency. We have three volunteer areas: Special Events and Fundraising, Child Care, and Reception Support. The London Abused Women's Centre offers comprehensive orientation and training about both the agency and the issue of woman abuse, a safe environment to work in, and a great opportunity to meet new friends and colleagues.
Internal Volunteer Support
The in-house volunteers provide reception support, child care support and special event support including clerical duties such as answering the door and welcoming clients, providing child care for clients when they bring their children to their appointments with them and special event preparation with the event team as needed. Training will be provided on relevant policies and procedures, with an emphasis on client confidentiality and safety. This position will involve a commitment of 2 hours once or twice per month. Individuals are asked to make a minimum commitment of 4 months.
Special Events and Fundraising
To be able to provide the important services that we offer at no-cost and in a timely manner, we need to do fundraising. That is where our Special Events Volunteers come in. During the year, LAWC holds various fundraisers of different sizes. Our major fundraisers are: International Women’s Day Breakfast & Auction, the Spring Run Off with Runners Choice and numerous fundraisers during our annual Shine the Light on Woman Abuse Campaign in November. From selling 50/50 tickets to informing businesses and the community about what we do, there is a place for any man or woman to support us in these efforts.
