Counselling and Advocacy
The London Abused Women’s Centre offers hope and help to abused and exploited women over the age of 12
This includes women and girls abused by their intimate partners, exposed to sexual harassment/harassment, and/or exploited in prostitution/sex trafficking.
A woman or girl who has experienced sexual harassment, sexual assault, or been abused by an intimate partner can meet with the Advocate Counsellor individually for an average of six to eight sessions.
A woman or girl who has been sexually exploited, prostituted, or sex-trafficked can meet with an Advocate Counsellor for 15 sessions or more over three years of support.
These meetings are one hour long, are scheduled approximately once every three weeks, and can include the following:
Identifying the nature of the abuse/trauma and reflection on how the abuse/trauma impacts the woman’s life.
The woman and her Advocate Counsellor working together to create a personal safety plan, recognizing that the woman is the expert in her own life.
Providing information, options, and referrals to other agencies and groups in the community that may be useful to her.
Providing advocacy when required with agencies, institutions, services, and systems (e.g., the justice or child welfare systems).
Counselling is available in person, over the phone, or virtually
Childcare can be provided upon request, and we can offer bus tickets for LTC and Paratransit to active clients.
