Women’s Support Groups
Women’s Support Groups
The London Abused Women’s Centre offers three core groups: Drop-In Group, Making Connections, and Women’s Support Group. All the groups offer connection, discussion, and expansions on the topics discussed in individual counselling. For most groups, there are options for evening or day meetings. LAWC offers additional groups when the need or opportunity arises, including groups on Non-State Torture and Sex Trafficking.
Drop-In Group
Drop-In Group is a weekly discussion group facilitated by an Advocate Counsellor. The topics discussed in Drop-In Group are determined by the women in the group. Past discussion topics included: the impacts of male violence against women and girls, trauma and trauma responses, and anxiety and coping strategies. Any client interested can attend Drop-In Group from the beginning of their services.
Making Connections
Making Connections is a structured group that offers women with shared experiences the opportunity to come together. Making Connections meets weekly for twelve weeks to discuss and learn more about their experiences of men’s violence against women and girls from societal and political perspectives. Making Connections is offered to clients of LAWC who are receiving services. For more information, talk to your Advocate Counsellor.
Women’s Support Group
Women’s Support Group is a structured group that comes after a woman has completed the Making Connections group. It is led by an Advocate Counsellor that provides women with the opportunity to explore their chosen topics. They have the freedom to share skills, strategies, and healing stories. The group runs for twelve weeks. For more information, talk to your Advocate Counsellor.
