Intimate Partner Abuse & Domestic Violence
The London Abused Women’s Centre specializes in intimate partner violence
We offer trauma-informed counselling for women who have or are experiencing domestic abuse or intimate partner violence in their lives. If a woman decides she wants counselling, she will have an average of six to eight sessions with an Advocate Counsellor. In those sessions, we will always meet a woman where she is at, it is up to the woman how she would like to work with the Advocate Counsellor. Together, we can identify the abuse and reflect on its impact, create a safety plan, fill out housing applications, apply for legal aid, and get referrals to other resources in the community if needed.
How do you know if you’re experiencing abuse?
This is something that Advocate Counsellors at LAWC get asked often. “How do I know?” Intimate partner violence can look like many different things. If you’re unsure if you’re experiencing abuse, ask yourself some of these questions:
Are you afraid of your partner?
Do you regularly change yourself and your behaviour around your partner because you’re afraid of what will happen if you don’t?
Does your partner hurt or harass you?
Did you give up your job, friends, hobbies, pets, etc., for your partner?
We are here for you. If you have questions or want to book an intake appointment, please call 519-432-2204.
What is an Intake?
An intake appointment is the first appointment someone has with an Advocate Counsellor at LAWC. In your intake appointment, you will work with your Advocate Counsellor to assess any current safety issues, discuss why you're interested in services at LAWC, and decide if LAWC is right for you.
