Get Involved with Shine the Light

Shine the Light on Woman Abuse is a registered trademark campaign created by the London Abused Women's Centre. The campaign began in 2010 as a small, grassroots effort within our community. It has since become an internationally recognized awareness campaign, exposing men's violence against women worldwide.

Each year, the campaign brings awareness to the issue of men's violence against women by turning communities purple for the month of November. Participants show their solidarity with abused women and support them in understanding that any shame and/or blame they may feel does not belong to them but the perpetrators of their abuse. Join us by illuminating your home, business, organization, school, or place of worship purple. This year, we have more than 70 illumination points, including England, Ireland, Australia, the U.S.A., and coast to coast to coast in Canada. To help you go purple, Lift Lighting London has offered that any businesses that reserves their lighting installation before November 15th, 2024, will have a percentage of the total installation cost donated to LAWC. Let us know when in November you’ll be going purple so we can add you to our Illumination Map.

Fly the flag. Did you know that the Shine the Light campaign has its own flag? We do and you can run it up the flagpole at your home, school or business to let the world know you care and want to make a difference in the lives of women and girls.
